The Millennia Story

Humble Beginnings — 1970’s

In the late 1970’s as cable TV become popular, we formed a company in Grand Rapids, MI to install cabling in homes for the cable TV industry. We later added TV cabling for apartment buildings. Over the next 5 years we completed installations in 4 different states. In the mid 1980’s we changed our focus from cable TV cabling to voice and data cabling.

Because of our experience and expertise, our business again spread beyond Grand Rapids to several other states and a wide variety of clients including a maximum security prison, several corporate high rise buildings, and even Cape Canaveral. We did work for a number of well know companies including Digital, Champion Spark Plug, Fruehauf Trucks and Eastern Airlines. As our reputation within the industry grew, we were called upon to install telephone systems for several of the telephone interconnect companies on a sub-contract basis as well.

Becoming Millennia Telecom

In the year 2000 as the communications industry was in the initial stages of convergence to VoIP, we became Millennia Telecom. At that time we conducted a thorough investigation of both existing and new telephone equipment and service vendors. We were looking for a vendor who could help us take advantage of the first hugh shift in telephone technology since the break-up of ATT over 30 years ago.

We discovered ShoreTel Communications in January of 2001. We were impressed with ShoreTel’s unique architecture and its core philosophy of giving the customer the ability to manage and control their own phone system. Customers with a ShoreTel system did not have to pay their vendor for a service call every time they wanted to make a simple change.

Millennia and ShoreTel

Early in 2002, Millennia Telecom became the first official ShoreTel reseller in the world. Since then ShoreTel has grown to over 300 resellers worldwide and completed a successful IPO in July of 2007. Millennia has consistently ranked among the top 10 ShoreTel resellers, both in sales and customer satisfaction. In July 2008, Millennia received an award for being #4 in the world for Customer Satisfaction with an overall satisfaction score of 97.9.

As our client’s needs grew, we added innovative technologies from two other world class VoIP vendors, ESI and Interactive Intelligence.
